How a Wrinkle Relaxer Works

A wrinkle relaxer is a neurotoxin injection. A small amount is placed in the muscle that creates the line. The muscle relaxes, and the skin over it looks smoother. A wrinkle relaxer does not fill the skin and does not add volume. Injection Lab uses Jeuveau®, and the goal is natural-looking results.

Treatment Areas

  • Upper face (3 areas): forehead, frown lines between the brows (“11s”) and crow’s feet. One area or the three together.
  • Lip flip: for the upper lip, so a little more of the lip shows when smiling.
  • Bunny lines: the small lines on the sides of the nose.
  • Chin dimpling: the “orange peel” texture on the chin.
  • Downturned mouth corners (DAO): the muscle that pulls the corners of the mouth down.
  • Brow lift: a subtle lift of the tail of the brow.
  • Platysma / Nefertiti lift: the bands of the neck and the jawline.
  • Masseters / jaw slimming: the jaw muscle, for a slimmer jawline.
  • Hyperhidrosis: excessive sweating.

Who Wrinkle Relaxers Are For

Wrinkle relaxers are for adults with lines that appear or deepen with facial expression: raising the brows, frowning, squinting or smiling. They are also used for specific goals, such as a lip flip, a slimmer jawline, neck bands or excessive sweating. Lines that stay visible when the face is at rest, sunken areas and loss of volume are treated with other options, such as dermal fillers or Radiesse.

Who Wrinkle Relaxers Are Not For

A wrinkle relaxer may not be appropriate for patients who:

  • Are pregnant or breastfeeding.
  • Have an infection or irritated skin in the area to be treated.
  • Have certain nerve or muscle conditions, such as myasthenia gravis.
  • Have a known allergy to an ingredient of the product.

Medical history and current medications are reviewed before treatment.

What to Expect at the Visit

  1. Medical history and treatment consent are completed.
  2. The face is assessed in movement and at rest, and the areas are agreed with the patient.
  3. The wrinkle relaxer is injected in the selected areas.
  4. A follow-up visit takes place two weeks later. If an area needs a touch-up, it is included.

Priced per Area

Wrinkle relaxers are priced per area. The 3 upper face areas (forehead, 11s and crow’s feet) can be treated together, and other areas, such as a lip flip, bunny lines, chin or DAO, can be added.

Wrinkle Relaxers or Fillers?

A wrinkle relaxer smooths wrinkles caused by facial movement. A dermal filler fills sunken areas and deep folds and adds shape and definition. Radiesse stimulates the body’s own collagen. SkinPen microneedling treats acne scars, large pores and rough texture. Some patients combine treatments in one plan.

Results and How Long They Last

The effect appears gradually over the first days and is reviewed at the 2-week follow-up. The aim is to soften the lines while keeping natural expression. The effect is temporary: the muscle recovers its movement over the following months, and treatment is not repeated more often than every three months.

Downtime and Aftercare

There is no real downtime: patients go back to their day right after the visit. Small bumps or redness at the injection points fade shortly, and a small bruise is possible.

  • Stay upright for about 4 hours after the treatment.
  • Do not rub or massage the treated areas that day.
  • Avoid strenuous exercise, saunas and hot tubs for 24 hours.

Written aftercare instructions are given at the visit. Contact the practice about anything unexpected, such as a drooping eyelid. Trouble swallowing, speaking or breathing needs urgent medical care.
