PRP Hair Restoration in Dania Beach, near Fort Lauderdale
PRP hair restoration applies platelet-rich plasma, prepared from the patient’s own blood, to the scalp of adults with thinning hair. At Injection Lab it is performed by Kendally Guardia, a board-certified Physician Assistant, PA-C, with advanced training in regenerative medicine.
What PRP Is
PRP stands for platelet-rich plasma. A small sample of the patient’s own blood is drawn and spun in a centrifuge to separate and concentrate the platelets. That concentrated plasma is then injected into the scalp in the areas where the hair is thinning.
Who PRP Hair Restoration Is For
PRP hair restoration is for adults whose hair is thinning and who still have hair in the area. It works with the follicles that are present, so it tends to be more useful when thinning is noticed early than when an area has been bare for a long time.
Who PRP Hair Restoration Is Not For
PRP may not be appropriate for patients who:
- Have a blood or platelet disorder, or take blood thinners.
- Have an infection or an active skin condition on the scalp.
- Are pregnant or breastfeeding.
- Are in active cancer treatment.
Hair loss has many possible causes, and some of them need a different treatment. Medical history is reviewed before starting.
What to Expect at the Visit
- Medical history and treatment consent are completed.
- A small blood sample is drawn and prepared during the visit.
- The scalp is cleaned, and the PRP is injected in the thinning areas.
- Aftercare instructions are given and the plan is reviewed.
Sessions and Results
Hair grows in cycles, so the change is gradual and is judged over time. Several treatments are generally recommended, followed by maintenance sessions. A single treatment can also be done. The plan is defined with each patient.
Downtime and Aftercare
There is little downtime. The scalp can feel tender or tight for a day or two.
- Wait until the next day to wash the hair.
- Avoid strenuous exercise, saunas and swimming for 24 hours.
- Avoid hair dye and chemical treatments for a few days.
- Ask before taking anti-inflammatory medication, because it can interfere with how platelets work.
Written aftercare instructions are given at the visit. Contact the practice about pain, swelling or redness that increases instead of improving.
