PRF Biofiller / Bio Gel in Dania Beach, near Fort Lauderdale
PRF Biofiller, also called Bio Gel, is a gel prepared from the patient’s own blood and used to add soft volume. At Injection Lab it is performed by Kendally Guardia, a board-certified Physician Assistant, PA-C, with advanced training in regenerative medicine and facial anatomy.
What PRF Is
PRF stands for platelet-rich fibrin. A small sample of the patient’s blood is drawn and spun in a centrifuge. The result is a concentrate of platelets held in fibrin, a natural protein of the blood. Nothing else is added to it.
What PRF Biofiller / Bio Gel Is
PRF Biofiller is a gel made from the patient’s own PRF. Part of the sample is processed until it thickens into a gel, and it is then mixed with the rest of the PRF. The gel has more body than liquid PRF, so it can be used to add soft volume to an area.
Who PRF Biofiller Is For
PRF Biofiller is for adults who want a subtle improvement in an area, such as a hollow under the eyes, and who prefer a product prepared from their own blood. The areas that can be treated are decided in the assessment.
Who PRF Biofiller Is Not For
PRF Biofiller may not be appropriate for patients who:
- Have a blood or platelet disorder, or take blood thinners.
- Have an active infection in the area or are ill at the time of the visit.
- Are pregnant or breastfeeding.
- Are in active cancer treatment.
Patients who want a larger or more defined change in shape may be better suited to dermal fillers. Medical history is reviewed before treatment.
What to Expect at the Visit
- Medical history and treatment consent are completed.
- A small blood sample is drawn.
- The sample is prepared during the visit: spun in the centrifuge and processed into a gel.
- The gel is placed in the selected area.
- Aftercare instructions are given and the plan is reviewed.
How Long Results Last
PRF Biofiller is temporary. The body absorbs the gel gradually over the following months, and the treatment can be repeated.
Downtime and Aftercare
Swelling in the treated area is expected and can be more visible under the eyes. Swelling and any bruising settle over several days and can take a week or longer.
- Apply a cool compress on and off during the first day.
- Sleep with the head slightly raised the first night.
- Avoid strenuous exercise, alcohol, saunas and hot tubs for 24 to 48 hours.
- Do not massage or press on the area unless instructed.
- Ask before taking anti-inflammatory medication, because it can interfere with how platelets work.
Written aftercare instructions are given at the visit. Contact the practice right away about strong or increasing pain, a change in skin color or any change in vision.
PRF Biofiller, PRP or Filler?
- PRF Biofiller and facial PRP: both are prepared from the patient’s own blood. PRP is a liquid that improves skin quality; PRF Biofiller is a gel that adds soft volume.
- PRF Biofiller and hyaluronic acid filler: both add volume. PRF Biofiller comes from the patient’s own blood; filler is a manufactured hyaluronic acid gel that gives more structure and definition.
- Radiesse: a biostimulator for firmer skin, not used under the eyes.
